Pine Ridge, South Dakota

2008 June 24

For the last few years, my family, and a Church we are associated with, have taken the 1200 mile trip to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South-West South Dakota. Each year, we have made deeper relationships with people of the area. We are heading out this July, to be involved in Vacation Bible Schools and work projects around the ‘Rez. My family hopes to be involved with a VBS put on by He Sapa New Life (http://hesapanewlife.blogspot.com/) in Rapid City, as well as work with the Clinton Wesleyan Church (from Clinton, PA) at a worksite and a VBS on the Rez.

A little history: In the beginning, we went with the Clinton Wesleyan Church (CWC) and stayed on the Rez at the WNAM (Wesleyan Native American Ministries) complex.  We stayed there for the last three years, and worked at several locations near the towns of Pine Ridge and Oglala. In the evenings we have done an outdoor Vacation Bible School in the heart of Oglala.

This year, with the reorganization of WNAM, we will be staying at a gym owned by a Christian group in Oglala. It is almost across the street from where we do our VBS, and close to our proposed work site, saving us 30 minutes each way for almost every trip! Praise the Lord!

It’s a wonderful thing that you are doing with the people of Pine Ridge – the Oglala. Have a wonderful time as I know you will!

    God Bless!
